Insport Series Event at the National Indoor Athletics Centre (NIAC)
Some of our coaching team helped out again at a hugely successful recent Insport Series event, held at NIAC on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th September. This event was organised by Disability Sports Wales, sponsored by Arriva Trains and the Rotary Club.
There were a wide range of 20 different sports on offer including of course squash and racketball.
The centre was open from 10am till 4pm both days. Friday was open just to schools in Wales from as far away as “Aber something or other” as Judy Wright put it. They did come from far and wide and in numbers, with around 750 on Friday and similarly busy on the Saturday. The entries had to be restricted following a huge take up. The attendees included children as young as 3 right up to adults.
Coaches Harriet McCarthy, Richard Plenty, Bob Perry and Judy Wright were helped admirably by Laura Plenty throughout the weekend. All the coaches enjoyed it so much they have already signed up for next years event. The day and our nets and coaches proved so popular there were queues for trying it out, and many came back for a second go they enjoyed it so much. The day apparently was so busy that our coaches lunch was delayed until their rumbling stomachs started to upset the children!!
And what has been brilliant to see is that following the weekend we already have two of the events attendees come along to our Monday evening session.
The whole weekend was amazingly busy, with a great buzz experienced by the team from what turned out to be an exhausting but immensely enjoyable and fulfilling weekend. Knocks, bumps and bruises galore from rackets and balls, fired by the participants in all direction, but all in a day’s work. Well done to all concerned.
