E Team First Half Report

Following a promising Spring 2016 season, where the E team finished in 3rd place only 1 point behind Llanishen C, hopes and expectations were running high heading into the Winter 2016 season.

The season, however, opened with a dramatic 20-2 loss against a strong Cardiff D team and with all teams strengthening within the division, the E team were in for a tough season. The team remained positive and gained some much needed triumphs against some of the relegation rivals. With Old Penarthians rooted to the bottom of the division, it was neck and neck between the E team and Llanishen B for the second relegation place. The season came down to the final week with both teams with the same points going into their final matches. Fortunately Llanishen were up against high flying, newly promoted Cardiff D where they only gained 2 points, therefore 3 points would secure safety in South Glamorgan Division 1. The team’s place in the Division was confirmed after the first rubber of the match to the relief of the whole team. With the pressure off, the team pushed on and won the final match of the season, providing positive momentum to go into next season in Spring 2017.

Huge thanks goes to Rebecca Baker, Dave Rees, Bronte Wright and Andy Jones for all stepping up when the team was in need; their 100% win contribution was vital.

Coming in 6th position, the E team are now looking forward to another challenging season to improve their status within the Division.
